In Brunei, Unified National Networks is building a single wholesale state-owned telecommunications network infrastructure that Chief Operations Officer Uwe Beydemüller believes is unique.

With a refreshed experience-first network from Juniper, this partnership will bolster UNN’s efforts to create a modernized and efficient telecommunication backbone that will support the government’s five-year masterplan for transforming Brunei into a Smart Nation, which was first announced in 2020.

The need to promote digital connectivity is clear and urgent. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown that connectivity is no longer a luxury but a lifeline for working, learning, keeping in touch and accessing essential services. In keeping with its momentum, the Brunei Telecommunications Industry will be uplifting fixed broadband speeds with the objective to bringing the baseline speed up to 50Mbps.

Cybersecurity agencies worldwide are seeing an increasing threat from a new type of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack called carpet bombing. Carpet bombing accounts for 44 per cent of the DDoS attacks globally in 2021 as reported by Neustar Security Services in its February 2022 report.
