UNN Named Top Five Finalist for Best Digital Transformation Programme at World Communication Awards 2025

Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd (UNN) has been announced as one of the Top Five finalists for the Best Digital Transformation Programme at the World Communication Awards (WCA) 2025, one of the most prestigious global platforms recognising excellence in telecommunications and digital innovation.

The recognition follows UNN’s large-scale, nationwide digital transformation programme that has fundamentally reshaped Brunei Darussalam’s ICT landscape. As the country’s wholesale digital infrastructure provider, UNN led a bold modernisation initiative valued at over USD290 million, encompassing nationwide fibre deployment, 5G rollout, telco-cloud transformation, and the development of critical digital infrastructure. Through this programme, UNN delivered more than 3,000 kilometres of national fibreisation, connected 97 percent of populated areas, and introduced mobile and fixed broadband speeds ranging from 100Mbps to 2Gbps, while reducing tariffs by over 40 percent. These efforts elevated Brunei’s broadband performance to No. 1 in ASEAN for mobile broadband and No. 6 for fixed broadband, positioning the nation among global digital leaders.

Beyond connectivity, UNN’s transformation extended to operational excellence and innovation. The organisation implemented end-to-end automation of its business and operational support systems with AI and machine learning integration, significantly improving service reliability and customer experience. This was complemented by the establishment of Brunei’s first Tier III-certified data centre, the creation of a Digital Service Lab to support cross-industry innovation, and the launch of Borneo’s first Internet Exchange, strengthening digital sovereignty and regional connectivity. The programme also placed strong emphasis on inclusion and sustainability, expanding connectivity to rural and remote communities through innovative infrastructure solutions, while simultaneously investing in workforce upskilling and redefining more than 200 roles to support a digital-first operating model.

UNN’s transformation directly supports Wawasan Brunei 2035, reinforcing its role not only as a network operator, but as a national digital enabler driving socio-economic growth, innovation, and resilience.

Being shortlisted among global peers at the World Communication Awards underscores the international recognition of UNN’s strategic vision, execution, and impact, and affirms Brunei Darussalam’s growing presence on the global digital stage.
