UNN and SCOT Brunei delivers essential items to socio-economically challenged families in 10th Ramadhan Charity Drive

With the joy of Ramadhan and Aidilfitri upon us, Unified National Networks (UNN) joined the Ramadhan Charity Drive 2021 organized by Society for Community Outreach & Training (SCOT) Brunei, a non-government organization whose mission is to be a catalyst for a sustainable poverty alleviation in Brunei Darussalam.

Held annually, the Ramadhan Charity Drive 2021 aims to aid families across the nation this year where daily necessities or essential items are bought with donations from the public and organizations to improve the hardship of socio-economically challenged families especially with the coming Aidilfitri this month (May).

This year, SCOT celebrated its 10th anniversary of its Ramadhan Charity Drive by increasing its usual quota of 100 socio-economically challenged families under Jabatan Pembangunan Masyarakat (JAPEM), Majlis Ugama Islam Brunei (MUIB), Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other SCOT beneficiaries to 150 families, and successfully achieved its target from sponsors and general public – making it the most donations delivered to date.

“It is a very encouraging sight to see so many young volunteers from SCOT Brunei so passionately involved in the planning, organizing and executing of this year’s Ramadhan Charity Drive that we cannot help but be motivated to do more than what we have done previously to help them achieve their target together,” said Dr. Steffen Oehler, UNN Chief Executive Officer.

UNN sponsored for the purchase of essential items to 100 socio-economically challenged families identified by SCOT Brunei, making it the largest contributor to SCOT Brunei’s initiative this year. UNN also provided 5 UNN vehicles for the transportation of these donations to the identified families.

Volunteers from UNN and SCOT Brunei came together over two weekends last month (April) to load the essential items into UNN vehicles and 4x4 vehicles provided by Persatuan Kereta Tahan Lasak Brunei (PKTLB) and Brunei Four Wheel Drive Association (BFWDA) before driving to the families living in the Temburong, Tutong and Belait districts.

Donations to 150 families were carried out as follows – 50 families in the Brunei-Muara district received essential items donated by ITPSS, East Asset Team, Jati Transport, Ideal Food Industries, and the general public on 17th April 2021; 35 families in the Temburong district received essential items donated by UNN on 18th April 2021; 30 families in the Tutong district received essential items donated by UNN on 24th April 2021; 35 families in the Belait district (specifically Sukang and Labi areas) received essential items donated by UNN on 25th April 2021.

UNN and SCOT Brunei would like to thank UNN colleagues who have volunteered their time towards the good cause, SCOT team for arranging the logistic and items that were being donated to the socio-economically challenged families, SSphotography.bn for providing media coverage of the charity drive, and other sponsors from ITPSS, East Asset Team, Jati Transport, Ideal Food Industries, PKTLB, BFWDA and general public for their support and contributions to making this year’s Ramadhan Charity Drive a success.
