06 October 2023 - Unified National Networks (UNN) organizes its townhall meeting twice every company financial year to highlight the company’s performances, financial wellbeing, key achievements, the progress of UNN’s current projects, future plans for the company, employee development and welfare. On the afternoon of Friday, 06 October 2023, UNN held the second townhall meeting of its financial year 2023-2024 at Banquet Hall, BRIDEX which gathered almost 500 UNN employees.
Before proceeding to the main agendas of the meeting, a recital of prayers was carried out to bless the event followed by an opening remark by UNN Chief Executive Officer, Dr Steffen Oehler. In his remark, Dr Oehler highlighted UNN’s digital telecommunication and modernization journey from the year of its establishment in 2018 until today, including fibre rollout to the nation’s rural and urban area, expansion of mobile coverage and building of fixed services in rural remote areas and the recent fixed broadband uplift to 100Mbps as the baseline speed to be made accessible to everyone, nationwide.
“In today’s market, we need to be a sustainable business, and our 51, 000 square feet UNN data centre is an eco-efficient and geo-redundancy infrastructure which will be completed and ready for services by January 2024,” stressed Dr Oehler as he spoke about the company’s vital investment to broaden its Data Centre IT (DC/IT) services portfolio for the future of ICT market in Brunei.
The townhall meeting proceeded with colleagues from Finance, Operations, Network Factory, Facility Management, Human Resources, Customer Experience and Corporate Communications presenting updates on the company developments and current projects.
To make the meeting more engaging and interactive, a quiz segment was introduced for UNN employees to answer and receive prizes for correctly answering them. Questions were derived from 16 posters installed around the venue hall that highlighted company activities including healthy lifestyle program, employee satisfaction survey and ISO accreditation journey, communication platforms such as SharePoint and Viva Engage and how employees can benefit from availing them, and snapshots of various departments’ progresses and processes.
Transparency was encouraged across UNN as part of the UNN way (work culture) to promote open and honest communication, provide a sense of belonging, make employees accountable and most importantly, builds trust amongst employees. And the townhall meetings at UNN has always upheld this culture of transparency by providing a safe space for all of its employees to voice out their concerns, queries, and grievances.
Prior to the townhall meeting, a month-long survey was conducted across the company to receive feedback and questions from employees to be addressed during townhall. Over 300 questions and feedback were received where some of the recommendations were caried out during the townhall meeting, some queries were addressed during the updates and presentations, while others were addressed during the Q&A session at the end of the event.
UNN Management Team concluded the townhall meeting with assurance that questions or feedback not addressed during the meeting will be answered and published in the company SharePoint page for all employees to peruse. A group photo with all the attendees marked the closure of the UNN townhall meeting that afternoon.
