The telecommunication industry stakeholders, including the three service providers Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd (DST), imagine Sdn Bhd (imagine) and Progresif Sdn Bhd (Progresif), together with the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd (DA) and Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd (UNN) have been actively collaborating to continuously provide accessible and high-quality broadband service for the nation. Together, the industry is ensuring Brunei’s fixed network infrastructure is future-proof.
Today, 15 December 2022, a 1Gbps Fixed Broadband Proof of Concept (PoC) will be launched in a joint effort by the telecommunications industry to transform Brunei into a smart nation, aligning with Brunei’s Wawasan 2035 and Digital Economy Masterplan 2025, and readying Brunei to be a Gigabit society. Gigabit Fixed Broadband service is a springboard to bring innovation, experience transformation, consumer, and industry use cases around high-speed broadband connectivity.
The industry will launch a 6-month Fibre Broadband (FBB) 1Gbps PoC where 90 participants will be invited by the three service providers (DST, imagine and Progresif) to enjoy FBB speed of up to 1Gbps. The objective of this trial is to ensure industry’s readiness in launching gigabit FBB propositions to the market. It also allows the three service providers to explore Wi-Fi propositions to enhance customer experience on the 1Gbps FBB.
Selected participants will be actively providing feedback through UNN’s feedback application. This will help the industry to identify gaps in service quality, processes, and user experience for improvements to be made by the telecommunications industry.
Progresif’s CEO, Puan Hajah Nurul Haniah Haji Jaafar stated that their goal is to work together with UNN on enhancing connectivity better for end users. She mentioned this trial will not only help them to examine their customer’s usage and demands, but it will also give them the opportunities to improve any gaps detected in their services.
imagine’s CEO, Suzannawati binti Haji Suharju, expressed her enthusiasm for the prospects of enhancing the level of user experience for their customers, that with higher bandwidth speeds and lower latency, it can provide significant service improvements to daily life activities and local ICT developments. This trial will also help imagine’s team have an extensive understanding on how to further improve its products and services catered to the masses for broadband, mobile, or bundle plans in line with the ever-improving network infrastructure to meet increasing local demand for data.
