Wednesday, 11 February 2026 – Brunei has achieved a major global telecommunications milestone, with Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd (UNN) ranked among the Top 5 mobile networks worldwide in Ookla’s World’s Fastest Mobile Network Report for Q3–Q4 2025.
The ranking, based on independent consumer-initiated Speedtest data analyzed by Ookla, places Brunei alongside the world’s leading digital economies and highlights the strength, reliability and performance of the nation’s mobile infrastructure.
The achievement reflects years of sustained infrastructure investment, steady network modernization and the nationwide deployment of 5G-capable base stations, in support of the nation’s Digital Brunei 2030 aspirations and Wawasan Brunei 2035.
Today, the country’s mobile network reaches 98.7 per cent of populated areas across Brunei Darussalam, while its fixed network infrastructure covers 96 per cent of populated areas. This coverage enables high-performance, low-latency and reliable connectivity for households, businesses and public institutions nationwide. Hybrid solar-powered base stations in rural and remote areas further enhance resilience, helping to provide uninterrupted connectivity and support efforts to bridge the digital divide through sustainable infrastructure solutions.
Internationally, Brunei’s connectivity continues to strengthen through a diversified backbone supported by three cable systems, comprising two submarine cables and one terrestrial link. In the next three years, two more cable systems would be added to cater for growing internet demands and AI use. This diversified connectivity provides additional capacity and resilience to meet growing national demand, including emerging needs driven by artificial intelligence and cloud services for the nation’s Data Center aspirations.
